Wonders of the Amalfi Coast Itinerary*

We suggest arriving at least one day before the tour begins – perhaps a day or two in Rome or Naples?

Day 1 – Arrival
You’ll  be met at the Naples airport or train station and driven to the Port of Naples, where you’ll be whisked by ferry to Capri – take in the glorious views back to Vesuvius, looming over the city, and clifftop Sorrento on the way. Upon arrival at Marina Grande one of Capri’s famous canvas top taxis will introduce you to the unique world of Anacapri where we’ll check into our home for two nights, the elegant Casa Mariantonia – we’ll await you in the lobby. Settle in and stroll the lovely gardens or relax under the lemon groves with an aperitif.Later we’ll take an introductory stroll through historic Anacapri followed by a welcome dinner (included) at a charming trattoria.

Day 2  – Anacapri and Capri from the water
Breakfast (included daily)
Our morning begins with a stroll down tempting lanes to Villa San Michele, the exquisite home and gardens designed and built by Dr. Axel Munthe in the late 1800s – with a fascinating history!After a light lunch (included) we’ll head down to Capri’s Marina Grande (the port where we arrived yesterday) for a private boat trip around the island.Dinner in Capritown this evening (included) comes with a fabulous view!

Day 3 – Capri and Amalfi
After checking out of our hotel, we’ll spend the morning in Capritown, full of enticing boutiques and whitewashed lanes, and stroll through the Gardens of Augustus, with some of the best views on the island!After lunch (included) on a flowery path we (and our luggage!) will board the ferry to Amalfi, marveling at the exquisite coast, sparkling surf, and charming towns from the water.
Amalfi’s fabulous cathedral will come into view, and we’ll be just steps from our seaside hotel when we walk off the ferry. We’ll check in and settle into our rooms, each one with a view of the sea, then take an introductory stroll around our “home” for the next 5 nights.
Dinner this evening (included) will be a seaside wonder in the tiny village of Atrani, walking distance from our hotel.

Day 4 – Positano
We’ll be on the water once again, ferrying to picturesque Positano, a don’t-miss Amalfi Coast destination! We’ll wander the lanes of this captivating town with its honey-comb of white-washed and pastel houses built into the cliff, then walk along a path named for the Positanesi who’ve emigrated to America to a seaside perch for a delicious lunch (included). Use the time in the afternoon to explore the fashionable boutiques, or take a walk with us for more views of the town and surroundings.
After ferrying back to Amalfi, enjoy a free evening on your own.

Day 5 – Minori
We’ll wind along the Amalfi Coast road to the seaside town of Minori, then drive high into the hills above town where Maria, of Villa Maria Agriturismo, and her husband Vicenzo will share the secrets of Amalfi Coast cuisine.and the delicious giant-sized lemons of their ancient groves. We’ll prepare a lunch of typical delights together, then enjoy it with a view of the town below and the sea beyond.We’ll return to Amalfi in the late afternoon, in time for a visit to the glorious cathedral, the Cloister of Paradise, and the treasure-filled museum.
For dinner (included) we’ll sample pizza at a local favorite, Donna Stella.

Day 6 – Ravello
After a leisurely morning in Amalfi we’ll wind up high above the coast to the glorious town of Ravello, where we’ll enjoy a fabulous lunch (included) on the terrace of Hotel Villa Rufolo before wandering through the lush gardens of Villa Cimbrone and taking in the views from the breathtaking Terrace of Infinity.After exploring the intriguing town, with its ancient palazzos, we’ll return to Villa Rufolo for an early evening concert featuring the works of Gershwin, Piazzola and more in the Annunziata Historic Building.
After a light dinner (included) we’ll return to our seaside abode in Amalfi.

Day 7 – Pompeii and Vietri sul Mare

Today we’ll drive along the gorgeous Amalfi Coast Drive, taking in the breath-taking views of the shore and sea, to Pompeii – one of the world’s most important archeological sites revealing the social structure, art, and everyday life of the ancient world.Pompeii - a taste of ancient history.From this ancient site, we’ll then drive to the ceramics capital of southern Italy, colorful Vietri sul Mare. After lunch (included) we’ll enjoy a walking tour of the charmingly tiled town, taking time to visit intriguing shops.
We’ll return to Amalfi, take time to pack our bags for tomorrow’s departure, and walk to a lovely terrace looking down on Amalfi lanes to enjoy one more fabulous dinner (included), sharing our impressions of this seaside week of wonders.

Day 8 –  Departure

Arriverderci to new-found friends before morning transportation to Naples airport or train station.
