Day 2 – Orpheus and Bacchus Vendange (Grape Harvest) Festival, Gensac
Breakfast (included daily)
Drive to La Musique, headquarters of the Orpheus and Bacchus music festivals, to join fellow music lovers for four days of a “music-lovers heaven”! Settle in to your room

Gather by the pool for an aperitif before a 7:00 concert – the Wihan quartet playing works of Franck and Beethoven . The artistry of these fine musicians will be interspersed with a delicious dinner (included), prepared by the in-house chef. The world-class artists we’ve been listening to will join us for dinner each evening, then delight us with an impromptu concert.
Day 3 – Bordeaux region
A fascinating musical/theatric experience awaits this morning – Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) reflecting on his relationships and experiences with Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, then we’re off on a day trip, either with Orpheus and Bacchus or on our own – perhaps St. Foye la Grande, a vineyard, or St. Emilion.
Tonight’s concert features pianists Wu Qian and Benjamin Frith on the unique Pleyel DuoClave, again interspersed with a marvelous dinner (included).
Day 4 – Bordeaux region
Once again we’ll enjoy the reflections and music of Hummel, then we’re off on a day trip in the afternoon. An evening of Beethoven and Brahms with the Wihan Quartet and special guests, along with another delicious dinner (included), will complete the day.
Day 5 – Bordeaux region
More explorations of this beautiful vineyard-laced region today, either with the group or on our own.
Then our Orpheus and Bacchus experience will be topped off by a Gala Dinner (included) and an evening of Bruckner and Mendelssohn with the Wihan Quartet and special guests.
Day 6 – Dordogne region
Today we’ll drive east to explore the luscious green Dordogne area. We’ll drop our luggage in the hilltop village of Belvés (one of France’s plus beaux villages – a beauty!) at Hotel Clement V before continuing to the beautiful medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda. After a delicious lunch (included) of regional specialties, we’ll enjoy a walking tour of the restored medieval center. Then you’ll have time to enjoy the town (the shopping’s great in Sarlat!) and explore before returning to Belvés. After settling into the lovely Hotel Clement V (where we’ll stay for three nights), we’ll walk to dinner in the village.
Days 7 & 8 – Dordogne Discoveries
From an ancient communal oven in one of the most picturesque villages we’ve ever seen, to lunch on a hillside farm, to more Plus Beaux Villages de France (awarded the title because of their situation and beauty) than you can count, we’ll have days filled with the beauty of this stunning region. We’ll visit ancient cloisters, cruise on a Gabarre (traditional riverboat/barge) past castles and cliffsides, view prehistoric sites, enter ancient fortress chateaus with unending views across the river valley, shop and wander in hilltop villages. Each day we’ll feast on regional delights, with the main meal included.
Day 9- Return to Bordeaux
We’ll return to Bordeaux, enjoy one last marvelous French dinner (included) and rest well before departing tomorrow.
